For me, the most beautiful portraits are those that openly convey the fragility and vulnerability of human nature. The real beauty of a human being is revealed when the masks are removed to convey the essence of who the person is and we can see into the heart of their soul.
For many, having portraits taken that reveal so much emotion can be quite confronting. However, it can also be healing, especially when a person lacks self-esteem or a strong sense of self-worth. The photos do not necessarily needed to be made public. They can just be for you and your loved ones.
The photos were published on this website with expressed permission of the beautiful souls depicted.
About The Photos Below
The photographs below were taken in April / May 2016, a time when my sister, Janine and I were confronted with the issue of mortality and the fact our parents are becoming elderly.
My father, the most beautiful man you will ever meet, had been in hospital battling aspirated pneumonia for a week or so when my sister, Janine decided to fly from London (UK) to Adelaide (South Australia) to be with my parents. A week later, I flew from Nelson, New Zealand to Adelaide also.
For both Janine and I, the four weeks we were in Adelaide with Mum and Dad was a time for deep soul-searching and a time for spending quality time with three of the most special people we hold dearest to our hearts.
